Pioneer Girl by Laura Ingalls Wilder

This is the book that inspired Little House on the Prairie, and it is a valuable piece of firsthand history! Before the popular series for children, Laura wrote Pioneer Girl, but the publishers just didn’t like it. So Laura’s daughter, Rose, suggested turning the book into stories for children. The rest is history, but the history started with Pioneer Girl.

It is a treasure trove of bits of history that may have been omitted or changed for the Little House books, and since it’s annotated, it includes tons of notes and reference. I rate this one as a MUST-HAVE for book lovers and collectors, as well as Little House fans and history buffs.
