Description
The Life of George Washington was written by John Marshall from 1804-1807. He wrote a total of five volumes on Washington. They include all of the original footnotes and endnotes from Marshall. The Knowledge Keepers editions have only added occasional footnotes to clarify something Marshall wrote (these footnotes are in italics), plus portraits and maps throughout. The original spellings remain as first published.
He was a friend of Washington, served in many battles in the American Revolution under General Washington, and then as his Attorney General in the new United States government. He was close to the Washington family; in fact, this book is based on Washington’s personal papers, given to Marshall by George’s nephew Bushrod.
After Washington’s death, Marshall continued in public service as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for thirty years. He both fought and worked alongside many illustrious names in American history: Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, James Madison, and many, many more.
The Life of George Washington by John Marshall is just one of the many primary sources that Knowledge Keepers specializes in. From the age of exploration to the 20th century, our mission is to rescue the writings of Americans who made history from the archives.
